Sanibel island

 Shopping is a lot of fun on Sanibel Island. You’ll find a unique collection of small boutiques, locally owned gift shops, art galleries and artisan shops, and so much more. 

Souvenir seekers will find plenty of island-themed items, including fine jewelery, brightly colored seashells, and lots of unique shell art in addition to the more traditional t-shirts and keychains.

• The Mad Hatter is by far the best fine dining on the islands. It’s open only for dinner and tends to be on the expensive side, but definitely  worth it for a great meal. Indoor only. Reservations are required so plan      ahead. If you have young or boisterous kids, you might skip it. It is  located just south of the Blind Pass Bridge that connects Sanibel and Captiva,  about a three-mile drive.

• Il Cielo  advertises “Creative American Cuisine,” but the menu favors Italian, which is just fine with us. We’d classify it as fine dining with prices at that level. Mostly indoor with a few outside tables. Located on Periwinkle Way a little short of the causeway.

• Cip’s Place is less formal, but with an excellent menu and moderate prices. Indoor and      outdoor seating, and we’ve always been very satisfied with the food and the service. Located in the Forever Green strip center on Periwinkle Way.

• We’ve also been very happy with our experiences at Sweet Melissa’sand Bleu Rendezvous.
