The City of Palms is a 30-mile drive from Captiva. It generally takes around an hour to get from our resort to the historic downtown of Fort Myers. This town has been a resort area for well over a century, getting its start as a destination with the opening of the Royal Palm Hotel in 1898.
Things to do in Ft Meyers
Today, you’ll find some great places to check out during your stay at Captiva Retreat. The Edison and Ford Winter Estates are a popular destination. You’ll find over 20 acres of botanical gardens here, as well as a greenhouse laboratory and the Edison Ford Museum. The entire grounds have been restored to reflect their glory days in the late 1920s.
Lakes Regional Park is a 279-acres green space in Fort Myers that includes a freshwater quarry, trails, plenty of garden and picnic space, water features, and more. It’s a great place for the entire family and makes for a very easy, pleasant trip from Captiva.
If you’d prefer the arts to Mother Nature, the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall hosts Broadway-style shows and other popular artists throughout the year.
During the spring, you can take in Spring Training games from local Major League Baseball teams. The Twins play at Hammond Field, and the Red Sox train at Jet Blue Park.
If you can’t make a week without a trip to Costco, you’ll find one at the intersection of Highway 41 and Daniels Parkway. As long as you’re there, hit up the Target and Total Wine, too, and you should have your provisions for the trip set.
