Getting around in Captiva and the adjoining areas is relatively simple. The layout of the land is such that most places can be accessed by walking. Bike rentals are available as well, should you decide to do some exploration, or if you just like riding. Of course, you can bring your own bike if you’d like, if the rental bicycles don’t meet the style or level of performance that you already own.
Unless you drive from home, you’ll probably want to rent a car at the airport to get out to the island. Otherwise, you can book a ride with Sanibel Taxi. There are also several activities (groceries, farmers market, movie theater, shopping, etc.) that will involve driving to Sanibel. Additionally, if you want to explore nearby attractions in Sanibel or Ft. Meyers Beach islands, or even further afield, you’ll want a car. Florida's southwestern coast boasts a wide range of attractions.
